Observation Narrative
This is a small but relatively deep pond that is strongly dominated by a cohort of Quercus lyrata. A few Liquidambar styraciflua and Nyssa biflora are also present, mostly around the edge. A single large Quercus phellos overhangs the plot from the edge. The plot slopes from near the southern margin of the pond to beyond the low point. Water marks on tree trunks along that gradient range from 20-55 cm above the ground surface. The shrub and herbaceous vegetation is very sparse, and the entire stand is floristically depauperate.
